In this holiday, I learned two idioms: waiting for a rabbit and a blessing in disguise. To wait for a rabbit means to wait for the rabbit to hit the tree stump. It is also a metaphor for sticking to experience and not being flexible
there is a story: a long time ago, there was a very lazy farmer, but he was always very happy. He was lazy for several days. One day, he was sitting under a tall and big tree with a basket of apples next to it. The farmer rested while eating apples. Suddenly, a little white rabbit saw the apple and wanted to eat it, but the rabbit didn't see the road, so he accidentally hit a tree stump. The farmer turned his head and saw a rabbit. The rabbit broke its neck and kicked its legs twice before it died
the farmer was very happy to see this. He immediately rushed up to pick up the rabbit and felt happy“ Ha ha, I found a fat rabbit without any effort. It seems that I have good luck! What other fields are planted? I'll sit next to this stump and wait for the rabbit to hit it”
the next day, the farmer had no mood to work. He set aside his hoe and the uncultivated field and watched the stump wholeheartedly, waiting for the rabbit to hit it. As a result, he waited all day and didn't wait for anything, but he still didn't stop, thinking“ Maybe a rabbit will hit it tomorrow”
in this way, the farmer waited by the stump day after day, and the crops in the field died, and he didn't care. However, since then, no rabbit has hit the stump
after the story, there is also a story of blessing in disguise, which means that although you receive setbacks for a while, you may benefit from it in the future. A bad thing can become a good thing under certain conditions
The story is: in ancient times, there lived an old man in the frontier fortress. He was well-informed, calm and far sighted
one day, a horse raised by Saiweng ran outside the Great Wall for no reason. When the neighbors heard about it, they came to comfort him and advised him not to be sad. Sai Weng smiled disapprovingly and said to everyone:“ Losing a horse is not necessarily a bad thing. Why do we conclude that it will not bring good results”
after a few months, a good thing happened. The runaway horse actually ran back from outside the great wall and brought back several fine horses of Hu people. So everyone came to congratulate Sai Weng and praised him for his foresight
looking at everyone, Sai Weng shook his head and said anxiously:“ We can't be happy too early. This matter may bring disaster to us”
after adding several horses to the family, Saiweng's son was very curious. He mounted a fine horse and tried to run. When the steed saw the new master, it was disobedient and hurt Saiweng's son's foot
everyone came to comfort him after hearing about it. Sai Weng smiled disapprovingly again and said to everyone:“ My son's foot is hurt. It's not necessarily a bad thing. Maybe it's a good thing”
A few days later, the war came. Many people sacrificed their lives for the country, but Saiweng's son hurt his foot, so he didn't go to the army at home. A blessing in disguise is a blessing in disguise
