邱少云烈士于1951年3月加入了人民志愿军，在朝鲜战场上，他曾在烈火之中抢救人民生命，与战友们共同保卫朝鲜。1952年10月11日，邱少云与全排战友奉命在夜晚潜伏在距敌人六十余米的山脚，配合主力部队对敌人发动进攻。一日中午，敌人扔出的烟烧弹正好点燃了邱少云所处位置的草丛。那熊熊大火仿佛发了疯似的，随风四处乱窜，肆无忌惮地吞噬着一切，可为了不暴露位置，他必须忍受着被火焰灼烧的剧烈疼痛，他如同泰山一样任凭大满分/火焚烧，依旧呆在原地一动不动，直到他牺牲。正因为他的这种坚强无畏的精神，才保证了这场战斗的胜利。
